Half a millennium before the Romans first arrived in Britain an even more ferocious people arrived in what is now south-eastern England after migrating from the mainland of Europe. This is the ultimate, easy-to-read guide for 'eclipse-chasers'. Eclipse chasers are now numbered in the tens of thousands. Every total solar eclipse sees dozens of cruise ships, each with about a thousand people on board, steaming along the track of the eclipse. Tens of thousands of observers travel to the eclipse track on land, to witness these rare astronomical events. There are some important eclipses coming up in the years ahead: in 2008 August across Siberia, and then through the Gobi Desert. In 2009, there is a six minute 38 second eclipse (very long) in China, south of Japan, and the Pacific Ocean. There will be two more big ones in the south Pacific in 2010 and 2012, then in 2017 there is a solar eclipse that will be visible right across the USA. The technology available to amateur astronomers is improving fast. Recent additions are low-cost white-light solar binoculars, and the new generation of affordable H-Alpha telescopes. Vertebrate Palaeontology is a basic textbook on vertebrate paleontology by Michael J. Benton, published by the Blackwell's. It has so far appeared in three editions, published in 1990, 1997, and 2005. It is designed for paleontology graduate courses in biology and geology as well as for the interested layman.
The book gives an overall account of every major group of living and fossil vertebrate. At the rear of the book is a phylogenetic classification which combines both the Linnaean hierarchy and the cladistic arrangement, and has been used as a guideline for the Wikipedia pages on living and extinct vertebate taxa. However, some of Benton's classification differs from that in the Tree of Life Web Project, especially as regards the relationship of early amphibian groups (Batrachomorpha and Reptiliomorpha). |

The Luftwaffe s campaign in Scandinavia and the Far North the Eismeerfront from 1940 to 1945 can still be regarded as largely uncharted territory in terms of historical research. Air operations over the Far North were demanding and intensive, with the two main German fighter units, JG 5 and JG 77, engaged against both the RAF and the Russians.
