Предлагаемая книга начинается с описания современных конструкций подвижных элементов приводов при опорно-рамном подвешивании тяговых двигателей. Для удобства изучения конструкции подвижных элементов разбиты на четыре основные группы. В последующих главах описаны конструкции тяговых зубчатых передач и способы крепления тяговых двигателей при опорно-осевом и опорно-рамном подвешивании их, а также расчет геометрии и прочности зубьев, копира боковой правки шлифовального круга, определение допускаемых напряжений и др. При рассмотрении основных исходных положений, определяющих выбор оптимальных параметров системы и коэффициентов коррекции геометрии зацепления зубьев, в целях ограничения объема книги блокирующий контур, необходимый для выбора коэффициента коррекции, приведен лишь для одного значения чисел зубьев шестерни и зубчатого колеса. В случае других значений чисел зубьев следует пользоваться блокирующими контурами, имеющимися в указанной литературе. Расчет геометрии зацепления зубьев прямозубой передачи дан с учетом фланкирования и косозубых передач с высотной и угловой коррекциями. Автор считал необходимым описать методику расчета копира боковой правки шлифовального круга зубошлифовального станка, являющегося основой технологии изготовления зубьев требуемой точности. Описывая методику расчета зубьев тяговых передач на прочность и определение допускаемых напряжений, автор встретился с трудностями при выборе коэффициентов, учитывающих качество изготовления, неравномерное распределение нагрузки по длине зуба, способ поверхностного упрочнения, концентрации, режим работы, реверсивность и др., входящих в расчетные формулы Эти коэффициенты определены экспериментально для каждого типа зубчатых передач. К сожалению, экспериментальное определение коэффициентов для тяговых зубчатых передач не производилось. Поэтому коэффициенты пришлось выбирать на основании данных подобных конструкций зубчатых передач, применяемых в других видах машиностроения. В процессе написания автором книги были широко использованы материалы Перовского завода по ремонту электроподвижного состава, Проектного бюро Главного управления локомотивного хозяйства МПС, Всесоюзного научно-исследовательского института электромеханики, Рижского вагоностроительного завода, Мытищинского машиностроительного завода. Новочеркасского электровозостроительного завода, тепловозостроительных заводов и др.
