The positive response to MILITARY VEHICLES Vol.I has prompted the publication of this all new Vol.II. Like Vol.I, this book captures in beautiful full color photography the delicate art of building, detailing, painting, and weathering of scale plastic military vehicles. Vol.II features nine new subjects, all finished by the master modelers at VP Studios. The articles include features documenting the weathering of Dragons T-26E3 General Pershing, detailing the Academy M18 Hellcat inside-out, and doing a VP conversion of a bergepanzer from Italeris Panzer IV. Five articles are devoted to superdetailing, painting, and weathering some of Tamiyas prizewinning plastic kits, including the M8 Greyhound, M20 Armoured Car, Sturmtiger, Kubelwagen, and a SAS conversion for the beautiful newly-tooled jeep in 1:35 scale. A bonus article deals with techniques used to blend a vehicle with its terrain. In all, this is an inspiring and informative book in an exciting new series of modeling books from Verlinden Publications.

This volume is the first dealing with 1:35 scale military vehicles. This book carries on the Verlinden tradition of displaying highly detailed scale models with beautiful full color photographs. Six of the seven models showcased were built by the highly competent professional modelers at Verlinden Productions Studios. The first vehicle to cross the pages is the ubiquitous WWII German Tiger tank, enhanced with highly detailed resin and photo-etched metal parts from Verlinden Productions, painted and weathered to perfection. The next vehicle, a U.S. Army Deuce -and-a-half cargo truck from WWII, is shown in all of its glory, spiced up with more resin and photo-etched detail parts from Verlinden Productions, its cargo bed loaded with various supplies. A Russian KV-1 tank of WWII vintage is featured in a fine study of weathering techniques. Two German WWII softskins, the amphibious Schwimmwagen and! the popular Steyr command & communications vehicle, are updated with resin and photo-etched detail parts from Verlinden Productions, and painted and weathered using the famous techniques pioneered by Francois Verlinden himself. Another infamous German behemoth from WWII , the Panther tank, is detailed with no less than four different detail sets from Verlinden Productions. With all of the additional parts, from the unique German zimmerit, to a fully detailed engine, this model is true to scale in weight as well as detail. Finally, we come to an outstanding model of the Soviet T-72M1 main battle tank under the Iraqi flag. This painstakingly researched and detailed model was built by a highly skilled modeler, Charlie Pritchett, who is currently employed on the staff at Verlinden Productions Studios. It features a completely scratch-built interior complete with radio equipment, gun breech, and auto-loader assembly, as well as a fully detailed engine compartment. The model i! s literally encrusted with details made from various materials, like plastic, brass, and resin, and the real metal track is actually workable! In all, this is an outstanding book covering a broad range of popular military miniatures featuring dizzying levels of detail and realism. This one should not be missed, whether you are a scale modeler, an artist, a historian, or a military enthusiast.

Osprey Modelling Manual 20 examines the Focke-Wulf 190, which entered Luftwaffe service in 1941. It would serve out the war as the best of all German fighters and fighter-bombers, and its variants would include Kurt Tank's extreme Ta152 tank-buster version (4 x 20mm, 1 x 30mm cannon). With detailed step-by-step model photography, specially commissioned walkround photography, scale drawings and wartime shots, these books will provide all the details needed to model the most common A8 version as well as the long-nosed FW190D and other variants. There is a full roundup of the models available on the market, details of where you can see the real thing, a select bibliography, and survey of websites of interest. Missing pages: 44, 59-61.
